Wednesday, March 20, 2013

You are invited to participate in a full-day Trade Justice Network meeting to discuss and strategize the Canada-EU CETA negotiations, and to hear from international experts about Canada’s participation in the Trans-Pacific Partnership and Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement talks with India. Those who cannot make the meeting in person will be able to phone-in.

When: April 15, 2013, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: CEP Boardroom (301 Laurier Avenue at Bank Street), Ottawa (MAP http://tinyurl.com/bvbl8d8)

The meeting will be split into two parts:

9 a.m. to 12 p.m. – TJN members meeting will assess the status of the Canada-EU CETA negotiations, current campaigns against CETA, and plan our next steps. The CETA negotiations may or may not have concluded by April 15. Regardless we should expect the Harper government to sign a deal in 2013. How can we prepare for this possibility?

1 p.m. to 4 p.m. – Open meeting for NGOs, academics, etc to hear from Sanya Reid Smith (Third World Network) and Asfar Jafri (Focus on the Global South) about the Trans-Pacific Partnership and Canada-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. Both speakers are in Ottawa for the CCIC symposium: Trade, Investment, and Human Rights in Asia. The afternoon session is co-ordinated by Trade Justice Network, the Canadian Council for International Co-operation and Inter-Pares. (A separate invitation will go out for this event.)
