Feathers of Hope: First Nations Youth Action Plan
Wednesday, January 22, 2014Feathers of Hope: First Nations Youth Action Plan to be released on Monday, February 24, 2014!
As you may recall, in March 2013, we held a forum in Thunder Bay, Ontario for First Nations youth called Feathers of Hope. Over the five days of the forum, more than 100 youth from First Nations communities across northern Ontario gathered to share their lived experiences, talk about issues of importance, and share the outcomes of their discussions with leadership from First Nations, provincial, federal and municipal government and police service representatives.
The forum was a great success and, over the summer, we reached out to youth in communities unable to attend the forum. The youth we met with spoke about the need for change and their willingness to work with families, communities, leadership, allies and government to improve the conditions that contribute to the loss of hope and well-being in many of their communities.
Over the last several months, we have been working hard to produce an action plan summarizing the voices of the youth at the forum. We are thrilled to announce that we will be officially releasing the Feathers of Hope: First Nations Youth Action Plan on Monday, February 24th at 11:00 a.m. We’re working on some exciting plans to help you be part of the day, so stay tuned!
In the meantime, we’ll be meeting with government and First Nations leadership to tell them what First Nations youth across northern Ontario identified as priorities to build healthier and safer communities.
The time for action is now and we need your help. We ask that you to stand in solidarity with First Nations youth and make a commitment to mobilizing change for us and future generations of First Nations children and youth. There are a few things you can do so Feathers of Hope gains strength: On February 24th, you can read and share our report, hold your own launch party, ask us to meet with you or your group to talk about the report and most importantly, help us spread the word and make a commitment to take action!
