Startling New Findings Show Ontario is Dead Last In Equality:
Coalition of 90 Community Groups to Release Unprecedented Report
(Toronto, Ontario) – A cross-Ontario coalition concerned with growing inequality is releasing an unprecedented new report that shows that Ontario has sunk to last place when measured against every important social indicator. The report demonstrates that not only are many Ontarians being left behind, but the entire province is falling behind the country and inequality is being exacerbated by poor government policy.
The report, to be released Wednesday by the Ontario Common Front, tracks Ontario’s standing on poverty, income inequality, out-of-pocket costs for social programs, wait lists for community services and other various measures. The release of the report is timely given the ongoing dispute between the Ontario government and the province’s education workers over cuts to education funding.
The principle author of the report will be on hand to answer questions about the findings, along with labour and community spokespeople who will highlight the impact of these realities on the communities they represent.
When: Wednesday, August 29 at 10 a.m.
Where: Queen’s Park Media Studio, Toronto (Room 148, 1st Floor, West Wing)
What: Media Conference to launch new report on income inequality
Who: Natalie Mehra, Ontario Health Coalition and Principal Author of the Report
Sid Ryan, Ontario Federation of Labour
Avvy Go, Metro Toronto Chinese & Southeast Asian Legal Clinic
The Ontario Common Front brings together more than 90 community groups and labour unions across Ontario that are working to expose growing inequality and propose workable solutions to fix it. Visit the campaign website: www.WeAreOntario.ca
